Martha’s Message

As a native Floridian, I grew up Miami, where people from all over the world come to live. Before embarking on this career, I spent over eight years living in Puerto Rico, as a missionary. Living in a multicultural environment, I became fluent in the Spanish language. My experience of living outside of the United States taught me to be culturally sensitive to the needs of each individual client.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree and began the Master’s program to become a therapist. However, a cancer diagnosis and life happened. As a result, my plan to become a therapist was put on hold. While helping care for my elderly mother when she was in hospice, I received the opportunity to continue my studies and completed the program with honors.

My goal is to help women realize their full potential even when unexpected life events happen. I tell you this to let you know that sometimes life does not go as we plan, but I would like to remind you that the rest of your story is unwritten still.

Services Provided

At St. Johns Women’s Counseling and Therapy, we offer a tranquil and supportive environment where you can find peace and healing. Our comprehensive counseling and therapy services are designed to address a variety of emotional and psychological needs.

  • We provide a safe, comfortable, and confidential setting either in our office or via a HIPPA-compliant, secure telehealth platform. You will receive practical counseling and therapy needed to recover from abuse you experienced. Martha has spent the past six years providing therapy for women in recovery at a Domestic Violence Center in St. Augustine, FL.

  • Since faith is important to many women, you have the option to include your Christian faith in your counseling services. This may include the use of Scripture, prayer, and a biblical worldview.

  • According to recent research, therapy may include the importance of healing through the senses and physical activities to aid in the healing process. Trauma Therapy will include assistance with self-regulation and emotions. The correlation of self-care and healthy thinking practices are important aspects of the therapeutic process.

  • Anxiety is considered a normal reaction to stress, but it can become debilitating when it interferes with daily life. The use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy are helpful in dealing with the anxiety and stress we often experience in today’s world.

  • The dual diagnosis of trauma and substance abuse is more common than most people realize. Most clinicians deal with either one or the other, however studies demonstrate that treating both issues at the same time is not only more sensitive to the client’s needs but is more effective and efficient. This is a creative and flexible treatment that includes cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal domains while addressing safe coping skills.
